OUC, Università Politecnica delle Marche Sign MoU for Cooperation

Prof. Li Weiran, Vice President of Ocean University of China (OUC), met with Prof. Mario Giordano, Vice Rector of Università Politecnica delle Marche on April 14th, 2016 at Yushan campus. The Italian visitor came to seek opportunities of cooperation.


Vice President Li welcomed Vice Rector Giordano and gave the visiting guest an overview of OUC. He said it is the first time for OUC to receive an Italian university head, adding the visit is of great significance to establish collaborative relations between OUC and other universities in Italy.


“Since Università Politecnica delle Marche plays an important role in marine science and education, I suggest we start collaboration from marine-related areas and step by step, we may extend our joint efforts into other field,” Vice President Li said. “And I hope this cooperation will set a good example for other Italian universities to copy.” he continued.

 

Prof. Mario Giordano gave a detailed presentation about Università Politecnica delle Marche, focusing on the marine science education and marine-related research. During the meeting, the two sides reached consensus on the initiative of international joint laboratory for algae biotechnology and engineering. With world-renown scientists and experts from Australia, the UK, Germany, Italy and Japan, this joint lab, using the world-class research equipment and resources, is committed to providing solutions to challenges from the ocean.


Vice President Li said that the International Alliance of Marine-related Institutions (IAMRI), with participants from the United States, UK, Australia, Canada, Spain, the Republic of Korea and Japan, is focused on resolving global marine issues at a macro level. While the international joint lab for algae biotechnology and engineering will focus on specific fields, which will replenish the academic activities of the IAMRI.

 

The two sides also exchanged views on the feasibility of establishing the Sino-Italy University Association. After the meeting, Vice President Li and Vice Rector Giordano signed the MoU for Cooperation, respectively on behalf of OUC and Università Politecnica delle Marche. 


Representatives from the International Office, College of Marine Life Science and College of Fisheries were also present at the meeting.
