Schlumberger Donates 5m US Dollars Worth of Software to OUC


The signing ceremony for software denoted by Schlumberger, the world leading information solutions company, was held at the Laoshan campus of Ocean University of China (OUC) on November 10, 2015. As representatives of the two sides, Mr. Zhang Xipo, the General Manager of Schlumberger SIS North Asia Branch, and Mr. Wang Jianmin, the Chief Financial Officer of OUC, signed the agreement for the software donation and exchanged commemorative plaques. 


According to the agreement, Schlumberger has donated five million dollars worth of software packages to OUC to be used for teaching and scientific research in the College of Marine Geo-sciences. 


Attending the ceremony were Mr. Xia Jianhua, the Sales Manager of China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), Mr. Zhang Lei, the director of geophysical prospecting from the Shanghai branch of CNOOC and one of the alumni of OUC, together with President Yu Zhigang of OUC.


General Manager Zhang Xipo briefly introduced Schlumberger Ltd. China and Schlumberger Information Solutions software technology in his speech. He said that OUC is the fifth university that has received substantial donations from Schlumberger. “We hope that we can take this donation as an opportunity to conduct multi-level and multi-faceted communication and cooperation in the perspective of scientific research and talent cultivation. We also hope that Schlumberger strengthens the support to universities and continues to expand its influence”, said Mr. Zhang.


President Yu Zhigang gave an overview of OUC to the visiting guests. He said that Schlumberger is a world renowned oilfield technology service company with a long history, and it has accumulated fruitful research and technical expertise concerning petroleum exploration and development. He went on to stress Schlumberger's cooperation with OUC through software donation as a significant factor for the promoting of career development within both sides while enhancing their social influence. 


“OUC attaches great importance to this donation. Under the premise of actively communicating with the company, we will vigorously and steadily perform the relevant management and support work in order to ensure that the donated software will be used for teaching and scientific research,” President Yu said, adding the utilization of this software will become a key factor for OUC in its training of high-level and innovative talents in the oil field and promotion services for local economic and social development.
