Cultural Counselor of Venezuelan Embassy in China Visits OUC

Vice President Li Weiran of Ocean University of China (OUC) met with Mr. Angel Leal, Cultural Counselor of the Venezuelan Embassy in China, and his small delegation on October 26, 2015 at OUC’s Laoshan campus.

Vice President Li extended his welcome to the visiting guests before giving an overview of OUC.  He said the initiative to give books launched by the Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro Moros during his visit to China in 2013 is very significant as it can increase cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the two countries, adding that more university exchange programs between China and Venezuela are expected.

“OUC started to offer Spanish courses this year, and we hope to help Venezuelan students study Chinese and learn more about Chinese culture so as to promote cultural exchanges between our two countries,” Vice President Li said, adding that both sides can explore more possibilities of collaboration in marine geology, oil exploration and ocean engineering.

Counsellor Angel Leal stated that he visited OUC for three reasons. The first being to present works by Simon Rodriguez, and the publication Letter from Jamaica which is regarded as the political and strategic action plan of Simon Bolivar. The second reason was to give Chinese students these books to learn Spanish and to learn more about the history and culture of Latin America, and in particular Venezuela. The third was to establish cooperative relations with OUC and to enhance faculty and student exchanges between OUC and Venezuelan universities.

Representatives from the International Office and the library also attended the meeting.
