President Yu and Director Susan Avery sign theOUC-WHOI Joint Center Structure

Following the signing of “OUC-WHOI Joint Center Structure” by Professor Yu Zhigang, President of the Ocean University of China (OUC), and Dr. Susan Avery, Director of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), the first international joint laboratory at OUC officially began operation on May 5, 2015.

In his speech, President Yu warmly welcomed Dr. Avery and the scientists of the joint lab for their dedicated efforts in facilitating mutual collaborations and making the joint center possible. Dr. Avery expressed her gratitude for OUC’s hospitality, and her confidence in making great progress by offering suggestions on deepening mutual cooperation based on this platform.

The inauguration ceremony of OUC-WHOI Marine Research Institute was held at the Laoshan Campus of OUC on May 6th. With Professor Lin Xiaopei, Executive Director of the Center and Deputy Director of the Key Laboratory of Physical Oceanography, MOE, as the chair, the plaque of the Center was unveiled by Dr. Sun Yegang, Chairman of the University Council, Professor Wu Lixin, Director of the Center and Dr. Susan Avery jointly, with Professor Zhao Meixun, member of the Consulting Committee under the Center, Professor Xu Jingping, and leaders of other management units in attendance.

The establishment of the Center marks a brand new cooperative era for OUC and WHOI, the world’s leading marine-related institute. The upcoming collection of joint scientific research projects will receive financial support for further expanding and deepening bilateral collaboration.
