Two OUC Professors Selected as Leading Scientists in Innovation


Prof. Wang Shi and Prof. He Gen of the Ocean University of China (OUC) have recently been selected by the Ministry of Science and Technology as the leading young scientists in scientific and technological innovation for the year 2014.


Teaching and doing research at the College of Marine Life Science, Prof. Wang Shi’s research focuses on the genome and thremmatology of shellfish. He has published over 50 research papers in influential international journals and achieved great research results in the development of genome-related technologies, genetic mapping, QTL, and the networking of genetic regulation and control. Prof. Wang is currently engaged in a number of national research projects, including some major national programs (Program 863). He has been honored as the New Century Excellent Talented Professional by the Ministry of Education, and also as the awardee of the National Natural Science Foundation as well as the Outstanding Youth Foundation of Shandong Province.


A faculty member with the College of Fisheries, Prof. He Gen is engaged in the research of the transmission and metabolism of protein signals. Eighteen of his research papers have been published in such prestigious journals as Nature and Nature Materials, and the SCI has cited his papers over 800 times. He is the first scientist to have analyzed the recognition mechanism of molecules in the mineralization of skeleton and dentin. He is currently the lead scientist in many national and ministerial level research projects. He has also received the honor of the New Century Excellent Talented Professional from the Ministry of Education, the National Natural Science Foundation award, and the Outstanding Youth Foundation of Shandong Province.


There are 306 young talented professionals from all walks of life who have been selected as the leading young scientists in scientific and technological innovation for the year 2014.So far, OUC boasts two research groups that have been selected as the innovation groups in major fields, three professors who have been selected as the leading young scientists in scientific and technological innovation, and one as the innovative career-creating talent.
