OUC Ranks First in Fisheries-related Journals among Institutions of Higher Learning Worldwide

The Ocean University of China (OUC) is among the top five institutions in terms of their share of the world’s scientific research papers, according to the Journal of Citation Reports. This finding is based on the statistical analysis of the 29,912 papers published in all the 50 fisheries-related journals from 2009 to 2014.

The five leading producers of research publications in fisheries sciences are the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in the USA, the Fisheries Res Agcy in Japan, Fisheries & Oceans Canada, and the Ocean University of China (OUC). It should be noted that all the first four research institutions have a number of relatively independent research institutes.

Statistics show that OUC is ranked No.8 among global institutions in terms of citation count in the same issue of these 50 journals, and No.3 among institutions of higher learning worldwide, next to University of Washington in the U.S. and James Cook University in Australia.

In China’s fisheries-related scientific community, OUC is now second only to the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
