Canadian Delegation Visits OUC

Prof. Li Huajun, vice president of the Ocean University of China (OUC), met with the Honorable Teresa Wat, Minister of International Trade and Minister Responsible for the Asia-Pacific Strategy and Multiculturalism of the Privince of British Columbia on November 7, 2014 at Laoshan campus.

Vice-President Li Huajun gave an overview of OUC, saying that OUC, founded in 1924, has undergone great changes and become a comprehensive university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education. Approved as a national key university by the State Council, OUC is the only marine-related university which is entitled to the preferential policy of Project 985 (for China’s top 39 universities) and Project 211 (for China’s top 100 universities).

“Under the national strategy of developing China into a strong ocean country, OUC is faced with both opportunities and challenges,” he said, adding that both sides could further promote exchanges and cooperation in a more extensive way.

“The Marine Science and Technology Delegation of British Columbia Provincial Government organized by Ocean Networks Canada visited OUC in September 2013,” said Minister Teresa Wat.

“During our visit, we have talked about cooperation in research and the development of marine technologies and their application. The industry of marine technology and marine economy of British Columbia Provincial Government takes the lead in North America,” she added.
