Two students from Ocean University of China won the Silver Medal and Copper Medal in the category of originality as OUC participated for the first time in the International Underwater Robot Competition(IURC), which was held in Chaozhou Stadium on May 24 to 25.
Under supervision by Professor Wang Shujie and Professor Song Dalei, the bionic jellyfish machine designed by Li Dongjie from the Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering of College of Engineering was awarded the Silver Medal. The ROV(Remote Operated Vehicles) designed by Li Qing from the Department of Automation, Measurement, and Control won the Copper Medal.
The results should be partly attributed to the Engineering Technology Students Innovation &Practice Base of OUC. In recent years, the base has bred many excellent original underwater robot programs by college students and has played an important role in training innovative talents in engineering technology featuring marine science.
The “Canca TV Cup” IURC 2014 was directed by the Commission of Teaching Instruction of Innovative Approaches under the Ministry of Education (MOE), and hosted by the Educational Management Information Center of MOE and the International League of Underwater Robots, and organized by Hanshan Normal University. The competition attracted 260 delegations from 56 universities around the world, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, and Fudan University, as well as universities from Holland, Australia, South Korea, and Britain.
