The book Science and Technology in Chinese Marine History, which was written and compiled by Ocean University of China(OUC)press, was newly selected as the funded project in 2014 by the National Publication Foundation Planning and Management Office with a total fund of RMB 600,000 yuan.
The book is composed of three volumes with 2.1 million words dealing with ancient, modern and contemporary Chinese marine history, respectively. It was co-compiled by an expert team consisting of professional personnel from OUC,the Institute for the History of Sciences of Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), and the Publicity and Education Center of the State Oceanic Administration.
This project is aimed at conducting research on the footprint and pattern of China’s marine history and the elements that may influence the progress of marine science and technology, so as to promote the Chinese marine culture, advance the economic and social progress, and safeguard national strategic interests. The publication of the book will also fill in a gap which has hitherto existed in marine-related publications.
As the first project funded by the state, this book marks OUC’s strong capability to undertake national publication programs. Currently, the draft of this book is finished with the final version ready to be published in October, 2014.
