Ocean University of China (OUC) hosted Mr. Li Zhaoxing, former Foreign Minister of the People’s Republic of China, to share his stories about the China Dream, after he was conferred the title of advisory professor by President Wu Dexing on Dec. 10, 2013, at Laoshan Campus.

Mr. Li, former Chairman of NPC Foreign Affairs Committee, as well as a renowned poet and diplomat, but a first-time advisory professor, said he was pleased with this title in his “inaugural” speech, and was as witty and humorous as he always has been.

“OUC has been growing on me ever since I first came here as a middle school student in 1954. Finally, I became an advisory professor of this university myself,” he said.

Following the appointment ceremony, Mr. Li spoke to the audience about his own interpretation of the China Dream and the Ocean Dream, using his own experience. In his speech woven with anecdotes, he called for the protection of the ocean and encouraged the audience to integrate its dream with national rejuvenation. At the end of his speech, he recommended four books to the large and attentive crowd, namely, Constitution of the People’s Republic of China, Charter of the United Nations, God Knows China by Wang Meng, as well as Medicine by Lu Xun.

On behalf of OUC, President Wu Dexing extended his welcome to and spoke highly of the newly-appointed advisory professor. Presided over by Prof. Xu Xiangmin, the dean of School of Law and Political Sciences, the event was also attended by Prof. Wang Meng, former Minister of Culture, Dr. Yu Zhigang, Chairman of the University Council, Prof. Guan Huashi, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Prof. Feng Ruilong, former Party chief of CPC OUC Committee, and other university leaders, including Prof. Li Yaozhen, Prof.Yu Yifa, Prof. Li Huajun, and Dr. Wang Jianmin, as well as Mr. Lu Guangzhi, head of Department of Organization.
