Laboratory Of Marine Medicinal Bioresources

Laboratory of Marine Medicinal Bioresources

The aim of the laboratory of marine medicinal bioresources is to discover new medicinal bioresources from the sea. The main research programs are investigation and assessment for the natural reserves, distributional characteristics, biodiversity, and living environment of marine medicinal organisms, especially in the typical marine ecosystems. The theories and methods from marine natural products chemistry, marine chemical ecology, pharmacology, as well as traditional Chinese medicines have been applied. The main research activities have been involved in screening and evaluation for the medicinal values of marine organisms, clarification the pharmaceutical constituents of medicinal organisms, discovery for new medicinal resources, establishment for the resource library of biological specimen and information, and research and development for modern traditional Chinese drugs.

The research fields:

1. Discovery for new marine medicinal bioresources based on new techniques.

2. Study on chemical ecology of marine medicinal organisms from typical marine environment.

3. Investigation on chemical material bases of marine medicinal organisms

4. Research and development for modern traditional Chinese drugs.

The research team:

Dr. Chang-Yun Wang, Professor, doctoral advisor.

Dr. Guo-Qiang Li, Professor, doctoral advisor.

Dr. Chang-Lun Shao, Associate Professor.

Dr. Hong-Bing Liu, Associate Professor.

Dr. Ping-Lin Li, Lecturer.

Postdoctorates (2), Ph.D candidates (15), and Master degree candidates (38).

Achievement:

In recent years, more than 10 national scientific projects focused on marine medicinal bioresources have been executed and accomplished, including the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (863 Program), and the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University, Ministry of Education of China. More than 70 papers have been published in the international journals of Org. Lett., J. Nat. Prod., Steroids, Chromatogr., Bioorg. Med. Chem. Lett., and Mar. Drugs. And 7 Chinese patents have been authorized. Particularly, an encyclopedia of Chinese Marine Materia Medica (editors-in-chief: Huashi Guan, Shuguang Wang) has been published in 2009.
