Research Goals

Research and development of marine glycan-based drugs, marine glycan-based traditional Chinese medicines, marine nutraceuticals, and animal glycan-based disease diagnosis biomarkers.

1. Marine glycan Isolation, characterization, structural modification, and structure-functionrelationship studies.

2. Preparative glycanchip technology and its applications.

3. Glycan-based disease biomarker discoveries.

4. Systemic biology of the sulfatedglycansincancer and autoimmune diseases.

5. R&D ofmarine glycan-based drugs and nutraceutical products.

       6. R&D of marine resource-based traditional Chinese medicines.

Main Research Achievements:

In recent years, the lab has been in charge of more than 30 important national research projects including Project 973, Project 863, Project 908, Special Fund for Marine Scientific Research in the Public Interest, International S&T Cooperation Program of China, and National Natural Science Foundation of China. Major achievementsinclude:

1. Large scalepreparative technologyfor marine oligosaccharides and the sequencinganalysis methodshave been established.

2. The glycochemistry and glycotechnology platform for R&D of marine glycan-based drugshas been established.

3. First marine oiligo- and polysaccahridedatabase has been established, which is the first not onlyin China but also in the world.

4. First marine drug–Propylene glycol alginate sodium sulfate (PSS) and other three have been developed,approved, industrialized, and used in China.

5. Twenty sixpatents have been granted and more than 118SCI indexed research articles have been published.

6. Nineimportant awards were receivedincluding the first-placeaward of technology invention from Peoples Republic of China, the first-class award of technology invention from the ministry of education, and the top-grade award of science and technology from Shandong Provincial Government.

7. Fitteenpostdoc, 40 Ph.D. and 46 master students have been graduated from the lab.
