Under the direct administration of Ocean University of China (OUC), Department of Social Sciences focuses on ideological and political teaching and research. Besides, the Department carries forward relative studies in social sciences. At present, the Department has 5 teaching and research offices, 2 Master's Degree programs and 2 research centers. The Department owns a libray with more than 40000 books, among which are 2000 books before thefounding of the People's Republic of China, including rare copies of Ta KungPao, Morning Post and Eastern Miscellang, etc.

Currently, Department of Social Sciences has 33 full-time teachers, including 7 professors and 8 associate professors. Teachers with senior professional titles account for 45% of all full-time teachers. There are 9 teachers with PhD degree, excluding 5 teachers of in-service PhD Candidates. An outstanding team with professors as the head, and associate professors andlecturers as the main body, has already in shape.

Department of Social Sciences has made sound achievements in both teaching and academic research. One teacher was accredited with National Model Teacher and Outstanding Teacher in Ideological & Political Education. At the same time, several teachers were awarded Excellent Level in OUC's teaching evaluation. All undergraduate compulsory courses have beenlisted as Quality Course in the University. One course has been picked as Provincial Quality Course in Shandong Province. All classes enjoyed good appraisals both from the students and the University. Teaching method innovation directed by Department of Social Sciences has been coverd by Guangming Daily and China Education Daily, which has received positive appreciation.

In recent years, teachers in Department of Social Scienceshave carried out 1 sub-project of Major National Social Science Fund Project,13 provincial projects, and 30 municipal and university projects. 10 books and textbooks as well as 200 academic papers have been published by the Departmentteachers. More than 10 academic awards of municipal level and above have been rewarded.

With the development of Reform and Opening-up, and endeavor to build a Comprehensive Well-off Society, along with Socialist modernization,the faculty of Department of Social Sciences will undoubtedly carry on their duties, advance with the times, and improve our teaching skills to better servefor the development of all the University students in a all-around way.
