1980: Academician Guan Huashi led a research team to carry out the earliest marine drug research in Chinese universities. Based on the majors of marine biology, aquatic biology, marine chemistry, and aquatic product processing, the earliest marine drug research laboratory in China was established.

1985: Developed the first marine carbohydrate drug PSS;

1987: Recruiting graduate students in marine drug research;

1988: Marine Medicine and Food Research Institute was established;

1994: Identified as Key Laboratory of Marine Medicine of Shandong;

          Founded first undergraduate pharmacy faculty based specialty featuring marine drug research in China;

1996: Marine Pharmaceutical Engineering Technology Research Center of Shandong was established with the approval of Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology;

              National Marine Drug Engineering Technology Research Center was established with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology;

1998: The master's degree in biopharmaceutics was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, and received a postdoctoral fellowship in marine drug research in the same year; 

1999: The National Marine Pharmaceutical Engineering Technology Research Center passed the acceptance of the Ministry of Science and Technology and officially started operation;

2000: Master's Degree in Medicinal Chemistry was added;

2001: The key Laboratory of Marine Drugs of Qingdao was jointly established by the school and the Qingdao Municipal People's Government;

2003: Shandong Provincial Marine Traditional Chinese Medicine Modernization Engineering Technology Research Center was approved and established by Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology;

              The Key Laboratory of Marine Drugs of the Ministry of Education was approved and established by Ministry of Education.

              The doctoral degree in medicinal chemistry was approved.

              The Department of Pharmacy was established.

2004: The Key Laboratory of Marine Drugs of the Ministry of Education was officially started and constructed.

2005: The doctoral degree in biomedicine was approved.

               The School of Medicine and Pharmacy (SMP) was established.

2006: The first-level discipline authorized by the Master of Pharmacy was completed.

               The Key Laboratory of Glycoscience and Glycotechnology of Shandong Provincial colleges and universities was established.

               Medicinal chemistry was rated as a key discipline in Shandong Province;

2007: The pharmacy postdoctoral mobile station was approved to establish.

               The Key Laboratory of Marine Drugs of the Ministry of Education passed the acceptance of the Ministry of Education Expert Group;

               The undergraduate major in pharmacy was rated as the brand specialty in Shandong Province;

2008: The Shandong Key Laboratory of Glycoscience and Sugar Engineering was established;

2009: The undergraduate major in pharmacy was rated as a national specialty;

               Become one of the major undertakers for the construction of a major new drug creation center in Shandong Province, a national comprehensive new drug research and development technology platform;

               Preparation technology of marine characteristic oligosaccharides (Glycan Library construction) and application development won the first prize of National Technology Invention Award in 2009;

               The first large-scale marine medicine classics in China--《Chinese Marine Materia Medica》was presided and published.

2010: The in Pharmacy authorized first-level disciplines;

               The first-level discipline authorized by the doctoral degree of Pharmacy wasapproved.

2012: The collaborative innovation center for marine drug research and development in Shandong Province was established;

2014: The Marine Biomedical Research Institute of Qingdao was established.

2015: The Pilot National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology (Qingdao) -Functional Laboratory of Marine Drugs and Biological Products was started to constructed.
