The School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS) is dedicated to providing high quality mathematical education to students and to promote first-class research in pure and applied mathematics. The School is currently staffed with 76 teaching and research regular faculty members, comprising of 19 full professors in which 7 of them are doctoral supervisors, and 28 associate professors. Currently, over 500 undergraduate students and over 120 graduate students are enrolled in the School. 

  

We offer two undergraduate degree programs, six Master’s degree programs and one Doctoral degree program. Undergraduate degrees in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and in Information and Computational Sciences are offered, and both are featured undergraduate majors of Shandong Province. We also offer Master's degrees in Pure Mathematics, Computational Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Operational Research and Control theories, Probability Theory and Mathematical Statistics, and Statistics. One inter-disciplinary Doctoral degree program in Ocean Mathematical Technology is also offered.   

  

The School is organized in two departments and three research centers: theDepartment of Mathematics, the Department of Information and Computational Sciences, the Teaching and Research Center of College Mathematics, the Research Center of Applied Mathematics, and the Institute of Mathematics. We also have a well-equipped Mathematics Laboratory, Modeling Laboratory, and High Performance Computing Laboratory. Mathematical Innovation Practice Base, in cooperation with a number of external enterprises and industries, provides a variety of scientific research training, innovation and entrepreneurship practice.

  

We explore the connections between mathematics and its applications at both educational and research levels. The field of research includes but is not limited to the following area: Algebra, Analysis, Topology, Applied mathematics, Control theory, Differential equations, Geometry, Operation research, Probability and Statistics, Linear Algebra, Numerical Analysis, Numerical Solution of Partial Differential Equations, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and Large Scales Scientific and Parallel Computing. The close collaboration between various research centers forms the core of faculty. Some research groups conduct both inter-disciplinary and inter-departmental scientific researches, which facilitates funding and collaborative researches.The research project, mathematical marine technology, which focuses on applications of mathematics in marine sciences, is an exemplary example. Over the years, our research groups have made strong scientific impact in the area of differential equations, numerical methods, analysis and topology, combinatorial optimization and other related fields.The collaborative environment also helps to maintain the high-level quality of research as well as teaching in SMS.

  

In recent years, the School has been awarded with over 50 research projects at the national, provincial and ministerial level, and participated in several “11th Five-Year” major national science and technology projects and the national “863” and “973” projects.  Annually, over 100 research papers are published in national and international journals with high impact factor.
