On February 15, 2012, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation published a list of 126 young scholars who won the Sloan Research Fellowships in 2012. Among them, 11 were Chinese.

Tong Liu, Assistant Professor of Mathematics Department of Purdue University, won the Mathematics Prize.

Among them, Liu Tong was a 1995 undergraduate graduate of our college. He received his master's degree from Tsinghua University in 1998, and then went to the United States to study. He is now an assistant professor of Purdue University in the United States.

The Sloan Research Award has been awarded annually by the Sloan Foundation since 1955 for outstanding young scholars in the early stages of their careers. In 2012, the winners from 51 Institutions of higher learning in the United States and Canada will receive a prize of $50,000, respectively, and marine science will be added to the original seven disciplines (chemistry, molecular biology, computer science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience and physics).
