This Master's degree program pays attention to statistical theories and statistical applications, which aims to educate senior statistical personnel to extract information from data or other data forms. There are three major study aspects at present. Firstly, the basic mathematical statistics theories research,which supplies the mathematical basis for the statistical computation and for the statistics application research. Secondly, the statistical calculation methods study, which supports the mass data processing and related theories. Last, but not the least, the research on the applied statistics, which provides the statistical theories, methods and technical supports for various application fields. At present the application fields include: the probability and statistics methods in the marine science and engineering field, the statistical methods in the signal and image processing field, the probability statistical analysis in the economic and financial field.

The graduate students should learn and master the basic knowledge of their main study aspects, and they also should have a systematic understanding of their research topics and important related references. After three years’ study, the graduate students could do theory research or application research independently, and they should accomplish the master degree theses which should be thoughtful to some extent.
