Ms. Mou is a “serious teacher” and she is a good ESL/EFL teacher. Thus is the comment from her students and colleagues.
She studied applied linguistics, focusing on teaching and testing of English, when she was a graduate student in Dalian Maritime University. After working with thousands of students by teaching College English for ten years in OUC,she felt that she needed to be “recharged”, so she went to the University of Toronto to study in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching & Learning in OISE. Her Master’s Thesis there was on the “controversial” accountability tests in Ontario, probing the attitudes and positions of some immigrant parents. She also obtained a Certificate for TEFL/TESL while studying in Toronto. Over the years, she has been a devoted teacher and she is proud of being more of a teacher than a researcher, although she does do some research when it is deemed beneficial to her teaching practice. In spite of being a serious teacher, her classes could be lively and humorous because of her belief that learning English should be fun! |
