The Department of Physics, established in 1930, is a teaching and research department. The department has great resources of people, including about 52 faculty members,350 undergraduate majors, and 85 graduate students, as well as state-of-art equipments, such as tunable pulsed laser system, UV-VIS-NIR spectrometer, plasma display R&D line, digital holographic imaging system, cryogenic system and ultra-high vacuum system. For undergraduates, we offer Physics major and Optical Information Science & Technology (OIST) major. For graduate students, we offer two programs: Physics and Optical Engineering. Through the efforts of generations, we gained a distinguished domestic academic standing and international reputation in Ocean Optical Engineering area.

In the past, faculty have established several independent sections, including : Basic Physics Teaching Center, Basic Physical Experiment Center, Theoretical Physics Teaching & Research section, Optics Teaching & Research section and Laboratory of Optical Photoelectron.
